How to Properly Load a Dishwasher
Loaded Bosch dishwasher

Loading the dishwasher sounds simple. For most of us, it’s a daily activity that is almost as routine as brushing our teeth. But are you loading your dishwasher the right way? Of course, you are, right? We know that nearly half of all American couples admit to arguing about how to properly load the dishwasher. So who’s right when it comes to how to load a dishwasher: you or your partner? Before you answer that question, consider these dishwasher loading tips from our friends at Bosch.

How should I load my silverware?

Load knives point down for safety, and forks and spoons can be placed either handle up or down. For optimal cleaning, alternate between fork, spoon and knife as you load.

Where do I put odd-shaped cooking tools?

A third rack, like those found in quality dishwashers from Bosch, is designed specifically for those odd-shaped items, like measuring cups, spatulas and ramekins, that just don’t fit properly anywhere else.
What about taller items?

Hand-washing the baking sheet you used to roast your favorite vegetables can be cumbersome. Instead, try the RackMatic feature in my Bosch dishwasher to adjust the height of the dishwasher racks. It’s perfect for cleaning large and somewhat clunky items like pots and pans.

Should I pre-rinse?

This is one of the most contested topics when it comes to loading the dishwasher. In fact, according to a survey conducted by Bosch in 2012, 61% of men and women fight over whether dishes should be pre-rinsed or not. Watch this video to learn the final verdict.

Hopefully we have brought peace to your home after you read this article. If you were right, I’m sure you will want your partner to know, and if you’re wrong, we’ll keep it our little secret.
